Digital Creative Visionaries & U.S. Air Force take on COVID-19 one video at a time.

U.S. Air Force

The United States Air Force Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Anchorage Alaska, awarded its video production contract to Digital Creative Visionaries for its Arctic Thunder Airshow, now called 'JBER Salutes, Operation COVID-Strike'.

DCV is tasked with cinematically recording airshow demonstrations of various Air Force assets during coordinated exercises involving pyrotechnics and joint force military personnel. The DC Visionaries team will also be required to film over 40 career paths across the base, highlighting the service each group provides in accomplishing the base's mission.

The Arctic Thunder Air Show, which typically brings over 100,000 thousand people to the Anchorage area, was cancelled due to COVID-19. In response the JBER team created the idea of turning the event into a cinematic experience across the base.

DCV, known for their experience working with the military, suggested a hybrid approach of traditional video and 360' video content.

We knew this had to be different and it had to be something the JBER team had never seen before, said DCV COO, Celene Di Stasio. We want to take this a step beyond just another live streamed event, this needs to be a narrative story.

This contract comes during an economic downturn in the video production industry caused by the virus.

Winning this contract will be a highlight of 2020, says CEO, Shane Yeager. “While other production companies are frozen, DCV is still growing. It’s been a series of pivots and last minute changes, but that’s what it takes to thrive right now. We’re happy to hire talented freelancers and return some of this good fortune to the creative community.”

The production is set to wrap late October.
